In my last post I talked about the major shopping destinations in Chennai. But as I said, the city has a lot more to offer, so here I come with my next post about the shopping malls in Chennai.
Shopping malls in Chennai are sprawling at an alarming rate and they’ve left no stone unturned in providing a complete amazing shopping experience. After the concepts of globalization and liberalization became popular in the Indian markets, there has been a flood of international brands here. Malls in Chennai are coming up like never before and they have changed the way people shop in Chennai.
Some of the best malls in the city are :
Spencer Plaza :
Spread around an area of 125,000 sq ft, Spencer Plaza is one of the largest shopping mall in South Asia located on Anna Salai and is one of the landmarks of modern Chennai. Here you can get almost anything and everything ranging from food items, leather items, games to mobile corner, restaurants and dress materials for people of all age. There are more than 400 shops inside the shopping mall and has all the major international brands.You will also find legendary brands like Florshaim shoes, Color plus, Levi’s, Adidas, Nike, Louis Philippe, Titan and Pantaloons.
Express Avenue :
Express Avenue is Chennai’s largest shopping mall with world class shopping cum entertainment facility. Situated right in the heart of the city, it houses some of the biggest brands from around the globe. This mall gives a whole new dimension to work, leisure, entertainment and shopping. It houses some of the leading international fashion brands and independent local retailers. It has four levels of retail space, accomodating 210 speciality stores, including apparels, bags and belts, fashion accessories, footwear, jewellery, health & beauty and home & lifestyle products.
Chennai Citi Centre :
Spread over an area of 150,000sq ft, it is an exclusive shopping mall in the heart of the city. It has become an excellent entertainment destination for youngsters and has added a new dimension to the city’s look. It is home to designer shoe shops like Mochi, Titan, a Health and Glow outlet, Cookie Man, Foodworld and a few accessory shops. It is a unique host of flagship outlets of the top brands. For movie lovers there is INOX. For food lovers there are various spots starting from Pakistani Kebab, Arabian Hut, Little Italy, KFC to south Indian Sangeetha – so try out anything you want. It is a must go place for all shopping lovers!
Abirami Mall :
Situated in Purasaiwalkam, it is the one and only destination in Chennai which combines world class shopping with some of the spectacular entertainment and with some of the choicest food courts.. Abirami Theater complex which boasts of a ‘7 star’ theater with a Spanish Opera House theme, has a food court in level 1 and shops in the other 2 levels. It gives a whole new dimension to shopping, leisure and entertainment.

The Great India Place, popularly known as TGIP, is located in sector 38A. Spice World Mall:

DLF Mall :
Located in Sector 18 and apread over a 1.4 million sq ft area, this mall is a landmark developed by the DLF group. This mall features over 430 retail outlets, 140 restaurants and food joints, an entertainment zone, a supermarket and an amusement park. It gives a whole new dimension to shopping, leisure and entertainment.
Like every other metropolitan, mall mania has hit Mumbai too in recent years. Mumbai malls are more than just shopping destinations. They offer an unmatched mix of eating, gaming and entertainment zones, offering fun for the whole family! Some of the best centrally located malls in the city are :
High Street Phoenix :
Located in Lower Parel, this south Mumbai cum suburban mall is the hideout of many young and old fans that take their hands to their wallets and buy whatever their hearts desire. The highlight of this mall is its swanky Skyzone shopping space, full of premium national and international stores. These are located along side cheaper retail outlets to suit all budgets. You’ll also find a courtyard containing food shops, bowling alley, gaming arcade, and sports bar. After shopping in the evening, you can also head to nearby BlueForg to hear some excellent live music. It is home to the following stores : Provogue, Big Bazaar, Pantaloons, Lifestyle, Lacoste, Mogra, Tommy Hilfiger, Next, Planet M.
Atria Millenium Mall :
Looking for luxury products and international designer brands? You’ll find them at this mall. The five level Atria mall had a star-studded opening in mid 2006, and has remained popular as it’s one of the few malls that are centrally located in Mumbai. The Eco Corner store is worth checking out for its unique range of environmentally friendly home and bath accessories, made by villagers. In addition to shops and a food court, this mall also has a 4-D cinema and large entertainment zone.
Inorbit Mall :
Inorbit, with its 1.2 million square feet of space, is one of the largest malls in South East Asia. The ground floor is mostly occupied by major British department stores. There are also a number of Indian designer fashion outlets, and an Australian cookie bakery. The first floor is full of national and international clothing brands, a music store, and bookstore. The top floor has been exclusively devoted to food and entertainment, and includes a kids play area. Its only drawback is its location i.e it is located in the outer suburbs.
Oberoi Mall :
The classy Oberoi Mall opened in mid 2008, and offers 500,000 square feet of shopping, dining and entertainment. It features a large central atrium with an uninterrupted view of every shop front within the mall. The attractions of this mall are the Lifestyle Home Center outlet, and the Central department store. The mall is also home to these stores : Lifestyle, Central, PVR Cinemas, Debenhams, Tommy Hilfiger, Adidas, Adams Kids, Gloria Jeans Coffee, Giordano, Pepe, Spykar, and Gas.
Shopping in Bangalore is truly a bliss. The city has something to offer to everyone. Right from electrical appliances to traditional handicraft to trendy stuff, you can find almost anything and everything here!
It has a wide array of shopping markets, malls and plazas. Some of the most sought after shopping places to visit are :
Commercial Street :
If you’re in Bangalore and if you’ve a nose for shopping, this is the place to head to. It is one of the busiest areas in the city. It has branded stores, small shops and road side vendors, selling clothes and accessories.
You can get all kind of clothes, accessories, funky jewellery, handbags, shoes, stoles & scarves and other fashionable stuff. The street shops are definitely worth exploring as you can find the trendiest stuff at cheap prices.
One visit to Commercial Street is never enough, every time you land up, you will be surprised by a new discovery in one of the lanes!
Brigade Road :
This is a popular hangout zone for college-goers as it provides a mix of entertainment and shopping options. There are showrooms for brands like Louis Philippe, Van Heusen and Lee. You can also buy unbranded clothes, shoes and jewellery as well. There are malls like Fifth Avenue and Mota Royal Arcade that are worth exploring.
Here, you can get a variety of products, from cheaply priced to very expensive!
MG Road :
Mahatma Gandhi Road, also known as MG Road is one of the most famous shopping areas. It has many saree stores and showrooms of Cotton World and The Raymonds. Other shopping centers to look out for on MG Road are Shrungar Shopping Complex, Barton Court, Public Utility Building, Spencer’s Super Market, the Coir Board showroom, Saree Kemp and many others.

Gurgaon is one of the perfect shopping destinations to visit. It is home to some of the best shopping malls in India. Shopping malls in Gurgaon are sprawling at an alarming rate and they’ve left no stone unturned to provide a complete amazing shopping experience.
Considered ‘the mall capital of India’, it has around 43 malls, making Gurgaon a city with the third highest number of malls in India.
Some of the best malls in the city are :
Ambience Mall :
Located on the Delhi-Gurgaoun border, it is one of the largest operational malls in India. Each floor in this mall is a kilometre long!
It is a true ‘destination mall’ for shopping freaks. It has an amzing range of brands. For women’s apparels and accessories, it has brands like Jealous Jeans, Mango, Zardozi, Van Heusen, Panna Sarees, Biba, Esbeda, Panna Royal, Global Desi and designer wear like Ritu Kumar and Satya Paul among many others.
For men’s apparel and accessories, you can find exclusive names like Louis Philippe, Studio Firang, Jack & Jones, Blackberrys, Gant, Cadini, Provogue and Van Heusen among others.
DLF City Centre Mall :
The first mall to have opened in Gurgaon, it is located on Mehrauli-Gurgaon road. It is home to more than 127 different stores. The main attraction of this mall is the Lifestyle store as it has a wide range of product lines for all the age groups.
It houses brands like Monte Carlo, Provogue, Cantabil, United Colors of Benetton, Baggit(for bags), Lee Cooper, Denis Parker and Levi’s among others.
MGF Metropolitan Mall :
MGF Metropolitan Mall is the second mall to have opened in Delhi NCR. It has more than 150 different stores. Shoppers Stop is the main attraction of this mall.
It has some of the best world class brands like ColorPlus Fashions, Dockers, John Players, Taanz, Osia Italia, Savanna, Perfection House and Koutons among others.
MGF Mega City Mall :
Located on Mehrauli-Gurgaon road, between DLF Grand Mall and Sahara Mall, it is the youngest operational mall to have opened in Gurgaon. CTC Plaza and Spencers Hyper retail stores are the main attraction of this mall.
The brands here include Jingle Bells and Abracadabra (for children), Allen Cooper, John Line, TNG, Charlie Outlaw, Pepe Jeans, Levi’s, Pennylane and Zoe by Zoe among others.
In my last post “Delhi: A paradise for shoppers”, I talked about the major shopping markets in Delhi. But as I said, Delhi is so vast in its shopping areas, that one post is not enough to talk all about it. So, here I come with my next post about the Shopping Malls in Delhi.
The malls, all-in-one stores, are another new sign of the new, prosperous India. It’s a revolution that’s fast changing the way of life for millions of shopping crazy citizens in India.
The mushrooming of malls in Delhi and NCR is the best example of the rising mall culture in India. Wherever you go in Delhi, you will find some or the other glittering mall.

Ansal Plaza, Delhi’s first mall located in the posh South Extension locality. It boasts some of the best apparel brands in the world such as United Colors of Benetton, Nike, Adidas, Puma, Marks and Spencer, Shoppers Stop, Tommy Hilfiger and Levi’s among others.

Being the first mall of Delhi it still remains the first love of Delhiites inspite of couple of world class malls coming up in NCR.
Metro Walk Mall, Rohini:
Located in Rohini, it is one of the biggest malls in capital which also has an excellent amusement park – Adventure Island. It has also a wide collection of leading national and multinational brands including Biba, Pantaloons, Reebok, Nike, Levi’s and likes.
City Square, Rajouri Garden:
The City Square is one of the most popular malls of the Capital, located in West Delhi. It is the hot spot of West Delhi-ites.
The mall has got it all, from world class stores to food court. MGF has tied up with Life Style Department Store as the anchor store covering an area of over 50,000 sq. ft. City Square houses popular brands like United Colors of Benetton, Adidas, Levi’s and likes.

The major shopping spots in Delhi are the Connaught Place, Karol Bagh, Sarojini Nagar, Janpath and the Chandni Chowk markets.
Popularly known as CP and also renamed as Rajiv Chowk is the must-go place for all tourists to Delhi.

Outlets of almost all multinational brands available in India are along the inner circle – Benetton, Allen Solly, Reebok, Nike, Levi’s, Lee Cooper – you name it, you can find it.
There are no big shops in Janpath but only small street shops that sell trendy clothes, fashionable jewellery, and Kolhapuri chappals at cheap prices. There are numerous Tibetan stalls selling silver and artificial jewellery studded with semi-precious stones.
For college goers Sarjoni Nagar Market is probably the best place to get the most fashionable and trendy clothes in Delhi at the cheapest prices.
For ethnic wear, Chandni Chowk market in Old Delhi is the best place. It is famous for jewellery and saris, so for those who wish to get a feel of the tradition of India, Chandni Chowk is the place to visit.
